In April, 糖心视频's student-led literary and arts journal, The Mill, was released to a waiting group of students and faculty, who joined in celebration of the publication's important role on campus.

In addition to receiving a print copy of the journal, guests at the event heard contributors read their work and celebrate the newest edition of a longstanding publication.

Extraordinary student work

Each year, The Mill publishes a selection of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, drama, photography and artwork from students across campus. This year, the creation of the journal was led by editor Lemon Bischoff '26, assistant editor Hope Mlecik '26, and co-advisers Drs. Sharon Kubasak and Michael Garriga of the Department of English and Creative Writing.

The 2026 edition was selected through a competitive submission process. "I would say there is about a 25% acceptance rate, like one in four, so we get probably 150 entries," said Garriga.

The editorial team met weekly to review submissions and ensure each piece met editing and grammar standards, explained Garriga. All submissions are considered during the selection process. "Our aim is to publish works of extraordinary quality, honoring students of extraordinary skill," he noted.

Readers of the 2026 edition of The Mill can expect to find a range of student artwork that reflects personal themes or interests, photographs of outdoor landscapes, poetry and creative writing based on each creator's personal experiences or imagination.

Student submissions come from all majors, in addition to those in English and creative writing.
