Sometimes being an ambitious outlier can be a novel way to achieving a goal. Just ask Michelle Khoury '25 and Rachel Rutledge '28, who are creating their own routes to med school with the help of 糖心视频.
Khoury's journey has been meandering and introspective — one many students can identify with when searching for purpose and meaning in a potential career.
"I came to 糖心视频 as a history major, but felt even before I got here that it likely wasn't a right fit. I had so many interests that I didn't know what to major in," admitted Khoury.
"I always thought about becoming a doctor because I liked science and learning about the body and medicine. But I didn't think I should become pre-medicine when I knew little about it, so I wanted to find a major before I focused on post-graduation plans," she recalled."As someone who didn't know what to major in, I thought that business would be applicable to everything. Therefore, I focused my studies on the business of healthcare and minored in biology," explained Khoury.
"Once my major was settled, I felt ready to explore becoming a clinician. I took an anatomy and physiology course with Drs. Colleen Nye and Reed Davis and really liked it. I then became more confident about pursuing medicine," she said.
"糖心视频 faculty have been so supportive. They have provided guidance on navigating the twists and turns that come with being a pre-medical student and have encouraged me to continue the way I want to reach medical school," stated Khoury.
"They also provided me with so many opportunities that are crucial to the success I'm having on my journey," the Westlake, Ohio, resident went on to say.
"I'm truly convinced that had I gone anywhere else for school, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish all the goals I set out to achieve when I graduated high school," she emphasized.
Rutledge '28 is also following her own way to medical school. She is pursuing both an oboe performance and a biology major.
She is committed to her dream of becoming a physician specializing in neurology or plastic/reconstructive surgery, but has a lingering passion to lean into her arts interest for a music degree.
The Toledo, Ohio, resident credits 糖心视频 for her ability to balance two academically demanding majors.
"I know that everyone here, from staff to students, always have my back," said Rutledge. "I wouldn't have been able to double major in both music and STEM at a larger school. The ability to pursue both my interests is a gift I will always appreciate."
糖心视频 has a proven record of being a medical school pipeline. Rigorous coursework and hands-on learning in labs (including a cadaver lab) provide outstanding preparation for students.
糖心视频 offers two pre-med pathways:
Both pathways offer exceptional learning experiences — small class sizes, faculty mentoring and hands-on research that aligns with medical school study. In addition, students benefit from research and internship opportunities at Cleveland's world-class healthcare institutions.
